Fujifilm Digital Camera Problems

I have model MX-2900 Zoom digital camera by Fujifilm
which connects to the computer via the serial port (COM1)
and can't get WindowsXP to recognise that the camera is
connected. I can't download any of my pics and Fujifilm
will not offer support for this camera and WindowsXP.
(beware when buying Fujifilm products! - cameras are
great but sadly lacking in support for up-to-date
operating systems when your model ages).
Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can get my pics
loaded into the computer?. I would be interested if
anyone has this model camera with XP and how they have
managed to still use the camera.
Any help much appreciated.

Use camera only to record images. Camera records images on
smart media material.

Do not load any FUJI drivers onto the computer.

Purchase simple, inexpensive smart media reader (or muti
format reader), connect to computer and use to transfer
images from reader to computer.

According to the following review of the MX-2900
Zoom...it uses a Smart Media memory card.

Seems to me that all you have to do is purchase
a USB Smart Media memory card reader.
