..... FrontPage 2005

I guess it's not really fair to count maintenance releases as a new release,
although the effort is nearly the same.

That would mean that DW only had 9 releases over that time period. But the
original statement was -
What I am concerned about is Macromedia has had a
stream of upgrades already since FP2003

and using your date of 11/2003, it would only be fair to say that Macromedia
had a single new release since then!

But I do understand your point....

Go figure! This time it worked ?? Thanks a lot Ron!!! ...

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!

This is the first I havce heard of this ... It looks like FrontPage "Next
Gen" is on it's way!! ... I love the demo and it also appears FP is now to
give Macromedia a run for the money in the Suite space.

SInce Expression references Vista, it makes sense that we may see it around
the Vista / Office 12 release period (2H 2006 / 1Q 2007) so it supports
features of both and IE7. It also seems to be significant enough to be worth
the wait.

Thanks for the update ... I appreciate it ... T.

Keep in mind, however, that Expression is a separate product and not related
at all to FrontPage. ;)

Thanks Jim ... Not sure what you mean though? According to the web link Ronx
sent, Expression appears to be three things;

---
1- Microsoft Expression Graphic Designer - (Looks like an atempt to go head
to head with Fireworks to me)

The link state ...
Microsoft Expression Graphic Designer brings together the best of vector-
and pixel-based capabilities, letting you explore new creative and cutting
edge possibilities
---
2- Microsoft Expression Interactive Designe - (Looks like a head to head
with Flash to me)r

The link state ...
Microsoft Expression Interactive Designer helps you create streamlined,
innovative and just plain beautiful applications. Users experience increased
satisfaction, while you develop in a flexible, productive environment
---
3- Microsoft Expression Web Designer - (Looks like an atempt to go head to
head with Dreamweaver to me)

The link state ...
Microsoft Expression Web Designer gives you all the powerful tools you'll
need to produce high-quality, standards-based Web sites the way you want
them. Take advantage of the best of dynamic Web site design, enabling you to
design, develop, and maintain exceptional standards-based Web sites.
---

Looking at Web Designed Screen Shots appears to be very much like FrontPage
to me?? Are you saying FrontPage and Expression compete in the same space?
Not sure what you mean by they "are not related at all" ?? Am I missing
something?

Nonetheless ... I think Expression looks promising ... T.

Unless you're using FrontPage to modify sites hosted on Windows
SharePoint Services, you should think of Expression Web Designer as
being the next major release of FrontPage, reworked, repositioned, and
renamed to better compete in the marketplace.

Microsoft Expression is name of the suite, analogous to Macromedia
Studio. Microsoft Expression Quartz Web Designer will be one component
of that suite, analogous to Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Of course, any of this could change between now and the release date.
Predicting is tough, especially the future.

Thanks Jim ... Yep, that's how I read it ... And it's encouraging too ... I
got hooked on FrontPage sine 2000 and am tired of my peers always telling me
Macromedia is better. I am happy to see MS compete in this space ...
Predicting is tough, but we always want the next best thing! I am happy to
wait, when I know what I am waiting for is worth the wait ... T.

What I mean is that Expression is not the next version of FrontPage. Can't
really say much more than that.

According to Jim Buyens above ... That is "not" the case ... Looks like I am
getting mixed messages ... I'll check with my MS Rep tomorrow and see if I
can get a better read ... To me, Microsoft Expression "Quartz Web Designer"
looks way too much like FrontPage not to be the next rev ... I could be wrong
.... We'll see ...

I also conject that Quartz won't be using fp extensions. This is just my gut
feeling.

I also have a feeling I won't be able to afford the suite :-(

Acrylic is very very cool, cant wait for Quartz to come out for testing.

If you're running or considering Dreamweaver, Microsoft wants you to
take a whole new fresh look at Quartz.

If you're currently using FrontPage to design general Web sites,
Microsoft wants you to consider Quartz as the smooth and logical
upgrade path.

If you want to call that a mixed message, so be it. Other people call
it target marketing.

Of course, as a standard caveat, lots could change between now and
commercial release.

Hi Cheryl,
There was nothing wrong with C/PM in it's time. I still have a Comart system
with C/PM runnig 4 separate screens multi tasking. IBM tried to go C/PM on
the PC before they went to Bill Gates but Gary Kildall, who owned CP/M went
off flying leaving his wife to talk to IBM. They were not used to such
treatment and left to visit a very young Bill Gates in his garage. That's how
we got Windows.
