FP will not let me Open Web. It says that the folder
"http://www.technologysrc.com is not accessable. It may be located in an
unavailable volume or protected with a password"

Well, it is protected with a password. Is there a way to "log onto" FP???

Or, another reason may be that to find http://www.technologysrc.com, I am
looking in: My Webs. Is that the wrong place???

By the way, I spoke to my provider and he reinstalled FP extensions But the
problems I deescribed in the presious post still persist.

I did and I have the same problem, same error message.
Is there a way to log onto FP so I can give it my password???

MORE INFO

I uninstalled FP 2000 and re installed.

In the middle of the install I got the error message, "Unable to access
configuration for Microsoft personal web server"

Could this be my problem?

What is "Microsoft personal web server"??

Any suggestions??

Assuming you are using Windows XP, you must do a custom install of FP2000
without the personal web server, which is not supported in XP.

Study the information I posted to you to trouble-shoot and correct your
original issue.

It's not "INKfile - is "lnk" (lower case "L" not capital "I").

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps: 1. Start the Microsoft
Management Console for Microsoft Internet Information Server.
2. Right-click the virtual server that is experiencing the problem.
3. Click Tasks and then click Check Server Extensions.
4. When you are prompted to tighten security as much as possible, click Yes.

See isntruction above. How does one start the Management Console ???

And Rob's statement below, is he referring to FP on my computer?

R

Ronx

Rob is referring to the server, not your PC.
The article refers to a Windows server, the Management Console is on the
server, you cannot access it from your PC.
Since you are using Apache on Unix the instruction does not apply - your
host will have to carry out the equivalent Unix commands.

The file _vti_inf.html is now present, indicating the extensions are
present. But they are still faulty since I also get the error message.
Ask your host to repair them, quoting the error message.

OK, I have asked them to fix the FP extensions. I am sure they will not know
what I am talking about.

Can you offer more specific instructions ?????????

ALSO

I get the same error message when i use Open Web on any web page. DOes that
make sense ??????????

R

Ronx

If they don't know how to fix the extensions get another host, quickly.
I have never maintained extensions on Unix, so cannot help.

Why do you not answer the second question???

Am I only allowed to ask one question per post"

"I get the same error message when i use Open Web on any web page. DOes that

No one is asking you to progam in Unix. "fix the extensions" seem like a
vague term. What do you mean?

They uninstalled and reinstalled the extensions and the same problem
persists. What else should the do ???

G

OK, so, here is another question that may lead to a solution. It seems like
I should move to another service for my web page that is more Front Page
oriented.

However, since I cannot reverse publish, I do not have my web page on my
computer.

My hosting service emailed a .zip file to me that is my web page. I
unziped it and have it in a file on my PC.

How do I open up FP and get it to open this file ???

You cannot Open Web (or Open Site) of a web PAGE, you must open a web SITE
or WEB...have you actually created a SITE or WEB? It's a common mistake
beginners make creating a "loose" page and not a Site or Web (term depends
on which version of FP you're using).

Though you "can" create a loose page you cannot open it as a site or
publish to it (obviously).

A Web or Site that is created with FP is a collection of files and folders -
the root folder will have a blue globe on it, does your's have a globe?

Your host will know what "please fix the FrontPage extensions", or "please
reinstall Frontpage extensions" means. If they don't you should find a
different host, because you will have nothing but problems.
