Front page 2000 Table of Contents fail to generate

I have tried both the template to generate page in my website and the
component. Neither of them works. Help? It just shows Table of Content and
then 3 bulleted list that are not my pages. I have exhausted all I know to
do. I am so frustrated. It took me forever to figure out how to fix the
Frequently Asked Question but now this has truly stumped me. I am granted a
neophyte but I can read and usually follow directions. I have read and
reread. Tried various options to no avail. I must be however doing something
wrong? I checked appropriate boxes, put my index page boy manually and by
finding it using browse. Nothing happen, however there is a little hand
holding a pad or something if I scroll over the Table of Contents title
written on the page. If I click it it returns me to the option where I put in
URL and chose the options. Please, please help Thank you

After you create it, are you then viewing if in a browser via http from a web server?

What you have done is correct - in Front Page it will only display
three bulleted items.
If you Preview in Browser, you will see the finished page.

The TOC after being generated needs to be viewed in a live browser to see
the actual results. It sometimes helps to do a Tools | Recalculate
Hyperlinks after creating it (or adding or deleting pages) as well.
