MicroWorld Anti Virus Toolkit is a free anti-virus scanner that runs
on-demand. You can choose to scan your entire system, including
memory, services, starup items and registry, or only scan files in a
specified folder or drive. It detects more than 74000 viruses as well
as hidden spy software, illegal dialers, illegal sniffers, keyloggers
and other things that may be of concern. The program is intended for
manual scanning and does not provide any real-time protection, however
it can be set to scan automatically at system startup.

Both use the same powerful virus scanning engine.

Get the updates here

http://www.kaspersky.com/updates.html?open=daily

Just Just dowload (small files 30 k) the new updates in your folder
where you extracted the ESCAN program and overwrite the previous (and
older) virus database. The program will recognise the new updates
without problems .

I recommend weekly updates.

Use this has a backup to your regular onaccess freeware proggies like
AVG,AVAST or Antivir and/or the odd Etrust demo etc.

Kinda like? Those two links look identical.

It is too bad that the Antodote SuperLite program will only detect viruses
and NOT do any disinfection...

That's why it's free. I checked it out and it does appear to be using
the KAV scan engine, based on the names it assigned to a number of
malwares in my collection. But it didn't alert on a base 64 file
infested with I-Worm.Swen whereas KAV does alert. Dunno if it's that
badly outdated or what. They claim it's updated weekly but I suspect
the one they have up there now is badly in need of updating.

The other day I downloaded a very good free antivirus software. It is
called avast! antivirus, and is free for home use (requires free
on-line registration). The program seems to do the job adequately. I
hope this helps someone.

It's a good freeby to have. Not only does it remove a very large
number of current malwares but it also affords a full blown scan using
Trend's latest pattern file. I supply a convenient downloaded/updater
for it since two rather large files must be downloaded and updated
frequently. See my web site.

Art,

What are the two large files? I thought only the Pattern file called
lptxxx.zip had to be downloaded.
