FP Forms on GoDaddy's Servers - Contd...

M

Michael

Continuing this topic from 2/11/2006 @ 6:28am and where I'm up to now with
this correspondence with GoDaddy please read on below...

If you'd like to see the half dozen amusing emails it took to get to this
point then let me know - somehow...

Can someone please tell me if GD's last suggestion below will work? I
haven't tried it yet... I can't believe it will.

Also, Does anyone have a comment on Michelle's 'FrontPage Quirk" sentence
below...

We might be getting closer!!!

Thanks.

Dear Michael,

Thank you for the information.

This issue is caused by a quirk in FrontPage itself. To solve this problem,
open FrontPage and click on File->Open Web. Then enter your website (ex: ).
You will be prompted for your username and password, upon entering them you
will see a list of files. Click on the file you are having form trouble with
and it will appear in the main window. Simply save this file, refresh your
browser and you will be able to properly process your forms. If this does
not solve the problem, please uninstall/reinstall your FrontPage extensions
and republish your site.http://cannonbeach.org. We hope this information
will be helpful to you.

Please let us know if our office may assist you with additional comments or
concerns.

Kindest regards,

Looks kinda like it's working now...or at least there's no error when
submitting. I sent you a test msg.

Quirky comment is quirky in itself. Open and file and save it? What she
suggests doesn't make much sense - to me at least.

the form you need to test on is http://www.cannonbeach.org/godaddy.htm

this is the default FP form that don't work.

all other forms on this site above have been 'neutered' to conform to GD's
whims! (i.e. only the email portion works NOT the writing to the _private
folder results .csv)

Sorry I didn't make that clear.

yeah, me too - it just seems like another run around. I will test and see -
at least I think they are trying - maybe?!!?

Opening the file on the server and saving it does sometimes fix odd
faults - the nortbots.htm problem caused by using FTP can sometimes,
though not always, be fixed in this manner.

I have sent a test message using the godaddy.htm page, and received an
error message - report to webmaster and check the logs.
If the email is working for other forms, then it is possible that the
_private folder is not correctly set up and has the wrong
permissions - the extensions should be able to read and write to files
in this folder. Running server health and allowing security to be
tightened *should* fix this. An alternative is to completely remove
the web site, remove the extensions, and republish everything and then
try to overcome Godaddy's recurrent email problems.

It appears that you may have "Optimized" the html.
Don't, it can cause problems.

Open the page in code view, right click and select Reformat hmtl and then
save the page.
Uncheck optimize if it is checked in the publish dialog.

I believe the error you are getting is 'cos the FP form has the 'save to
file' enabled and can not write to the _private folder. In addition, the
email part of the form then breaks as well.

If I remove the 'save to file' from the form then the email works just fine.

As far as optimization goes what I don't understand is that any form at all
on GD's 'Economy' Windows plan works just as it all should at
http://www.cannonbeachcomputerservices.com and the pages are optimized!

The GoDaddy Windows Server Economy plan works all as it should with
FrontPage Forms.. The 'Deluxe' Windows plan is causing all my grief!

Thanks all for your Feedback and I guess I'm going to have to try the 'nuke
'n recreate all' approach - arghhhhh.
