Blank Pages on Virus & Window Patches Pages

S

Stephen

I have tried ALL the following but I cannot seem to solve
the problem. I have been in touch with Microsoft & my
Virus Company (Vet) this is the history. Can anyone HELP.
I have even re-installed.

In Norman Virus Control the following message comes us.
C;\document and
Settings\user\localSettings\temporaryFiles\Content.IE5
\BJHL99LI\NavioESD(1).exe

I cannot find a Directory named that . Is this a clue to
what is wrong?

Dear Windows Support

Yes, that is correct on ALL Virus Download Pages. Other
pages no problems at all. Only those that are associated
with Virus checkers or download utilities.

I tried everything that you suggested and there is no
change. Problems still exist. Blank Pages. Bottom Left
bottom corner of IE said "Done" when you want that site
to load.

I have XP Windows.

Virus Check - No Virus. I turned off the System Restore
directed by Vet Virus Software and re run the Virus
Checker still no change. I download and run the New
Updates everyday. Have always done that.

Is there any utilities available to correct this that can
be sent to us seeing I have no access to those sites or
will uninstalling IE and re -installing, will that help?

Regards

Stephen

Thank you for your response.

I ran the Ad-adware with update and it seems to have
sorted it out. But I think that I have a virus.

I ran my virus checker (Vet) and said no virus detected.
But a Box comes up on the screen suggesting I scan. Still
no Virus.

In the Box it said

C:\SystemVolume Information\restore (Something with a lot
of numbers between the brackets) Win32Sndca.exe

I tried System Restore and it will not allow us to
restore. I have tried going to the WEB sites to download
a fix and the Windows Patch but it will not load the
screen (Blank Page).

I think that I have tried just about everything I know
any suggestions. Seeing it will not allow us into those
sites that can help us that is why I think that I have a
virus i.e. Microsoft Download, Symantec. It will go to
the sites but will not allow us to download from them.
When I get to the site and go to the Download section
they are all blank pages

Stephen,
Thank you for your response.

I would like you to test Windows Safe Mode to see if the
same problem occurs. By the way, have you run the spyware
scanners which I have recommended in the previous email?

When you start your computer in safe mode, only a minimal
set of essential drivers and services is loaded. Safe
mode is a useful diagnostic tool to use when you want to
identify and resolve problems that are caused by faulty
drivers, programs, or services that start automatically.

If you find that the problem does not occur in Safe Mode,
you can use the System Configuration Utility to pinpoint
the problem service, program or driver.
To start your computer in Safe Mode, follow these steps:

1. Shut down your computer and switch it off.

2. Turn the computer on, and once the POST (Power On Self
Test) has completed, tap the F8 key until you see the
option for Safe Mode.

3. Highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

4. Once Windows has loaded, test to see if the problem
occurs in this mode.
If the problem does not occur in Windows Safe Mode,
please use the System Configuration Utility.

The System Configuration Utility allows you to
temporarily change the way Windows starts. The tool
allows you to enable or disable a variety of startup
settings so that you can simplify the configuration of
your system during troubleshooting.

To start the System Configuration Utility, follow these
steps.

1. Close all open applications.

2. Click on Start and then Run and type in "msconfig"
(without the quotation marks) and click OK.

3. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup. This
will enable you to choose which items you want to start
with your computer. Your first step should be to untick
all the checkboxes except Load System Services. (If you
need an internet connection to test the problem you are
having, you will need to leave System.ini ticked.)

4. Go to the Services tab. Tick the option for Hide all
Microsoft Services. If you see the services
with "birdge.dll", untick it. Or else, untick the items
remaining on the list. Untick Hide all Microsoft
Services.

5. Click OK and when prompted, go ahead and restart the
computer.

NOTE: Clearing the Load System Services check box
disables Microsoft services (for example, Networking,
Plug and Play, Event Logging, and Error Reporting) and
permanently deletes all restore points for the System
Restore utility. Do not do this if you want to retain
your restore points for System Restore or need to use a
Microsoft service to test a problem.

Once you have restarted you can test your system to see
if the problem reoccurs. If it does not, you can then go
back to the System Configuration Utility and tick one of
the items currently unticked. This will continue until
the problem reoccurs. You will then be able to pinpoint
the problem.

The following articles may be useful in explaining the
system configuration utility further.

Dear Stephen,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Assisted
Support. My name is Edward and I will be assisting you
with your case involving Windows XP.

As I understand it, your issue is DLL error message
appears during startup. If this is not correct, please
let me know.

Yes, you may use the System Restore to restore before
that date. Or you may refer to below.

I would like you to scan your computer and make sure it
is Virus, Worm and Spyware free. All the mention above
may cause your system not to function properly.

Spyware is programming that is put in someone's computer
to secretly gather information about the user and relay
it to advertisers or other interested parties. In some
cases it may simply slow down the operation of your
computer, and in others may add toolbars and unwanted
advertising to applications, including Internet Explorer.

I believe that the following website will be able to
assist you:

Trend Micro; this web site provides online virus scanning.

allow me to load it.

Subject: Support Request - Bridge.sll
Dear Crew,

I uninstalled Bridge program through Control Panel Add &
Remove Software

think that it was an illegal entry of the "MySearch" tool
bar on the IE.

Now I realise that it wasn't because every time I start
the machine I get a

DLL error message. Module cannot be found.

How do I solve this problem?

I use XP Home Windows.

Do I use the Restore back before that date or do I re-
install Window, or is

there another way

Stephen Millar

My guess is that you are spelling it incorrectly.
The default name for the TIF is Temporary Internet Files
(Note the spaces between the words.)
However, you could have renamed it using the Internet Properties
Settings, Move Folder... command. In any case the simplest way
to find it regardless of how it is spelled is to use the View Files...
command button on the same Settings dialog. (E.g. using IE's Tools
menu: Alt-T,O,Alt-S,V) Then you can copy the path from the resulting
Explorer window's Address bar. Tip: although the Explorer window
shows you a special view of the entire TIF pseudo folder you can
still display its underlying implementation by appending \Content.IE5\
to that path and then navigating further downward normally.

Note: I would not be surprised if you don't find the file there.
A typical ploy of malware is to delete traces of itself after it is loaded.
Also typically virus scanners are not looking for this type of program.
You may be much better off doing multiple scans for malware as you
can see many other responders advising.
