formatting a second drive

I recently did a clean install of Windows XP on my primary hard drive. I have
a second hard drive which is connected to a controller card. First, is there
a way to format the second hard drive after Win XP is installed on the first
drive? Second, When I try to boot from the CD to do the clean install, the
system automatically resets itself and never actually boots up. The only way
I have found to bypass this problem is to disconnenct the 2nd hard and then
install Windows. Does anyone have any idea why this happens or better yet,
how to avoid disconnecting my hard drive every time I decide to do a clean
install of Windows? Thanks

With the second drive on a separate controller card you may have to
disconnect it to do a clean install. (it may be the only way) After you have
got your clean install reconnect the second drive install any drivers
required for the controller card and then right click and format the second
drive. Alternatively go to disk management and you can format the drive from
there and allocate a drive letter if there isn't one automatically.
