Forcing firefox as default browser

I am struggling with making Firefox the default browser. When I go into
default programs, or default file extensions, Firefox is nowhere to be seen.
In the default programs list there is no way to add a program. Can anyone
help please? Simply making firefox default in the firefox control panel
does not work.

Which version of Firefox are you using? The newer ones and especially the
beta seem to work better in Vista.

If you go to default programs and select "Set program access and computer
defaults", Firefox is not an option. Someone earlier was having the same
type of problem with Thunderbird and a reinstall solved it.

I am using FF 2.0 - no problem setting it as default
Tools-Options-Main Tab - System defaults on the bottom

I think this is an excellent browser...................I like it!

I don't like FF and I think it is mediocre not excellent. And its security
model is security-by-obscurity which is a weak way of going about it. I
prefer IE7.

I was hoping the new release of Firefox would work in Vista as I am not keen
on IE7 at all, just out up with it until now thinking I was working along
with Vista but have given up with some of the things would be nice to have a
good browser back :)
I don't set as default even on XP but I still use it 99.9% haven't even
downloaded IE7 for XP after I read the problems.

The best news I have read here tonight.
