Firefox

I use Windows Mail for my eMail but Firefox for my Browser. However, I seem
unable to truly set Firefox as the complete default Browser. It does not
appear in Set Default Programs and I see no way to add it to the list of
Default Programs, which really surprises me, and when I click on a hotlink in
Windows Mail it refuses to open Firefox. In fact, if Firefox is set as the
default Browser, which I have to do manually each time I start the Browser,
then clicking on hotlinks in Windows Mail does absolutely nothing. So I'm
finding I have to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer.
Is there a way to add Firefox to the list of Default Programs so I can set
it as the default Browser for everything? Oh, I know there's an add-on for
Firefox that changes Firefox to the IE rendering engine but I shouldn't have
to do that. Makes Firefox pointless.
And what's the point of the Default Programs if you can't add new programs
to the list?

I have a slightly different issue using Firefox. I have set it as my default
browser and it works as expected, any links in mail or news postings open
Firefox as they should.

My problem is that when I press the browser button on my MS keyboard it
still opens IE even though I have used the keyboard mapping program to point
specifically at Firefox as my browser.

If I want to open the browser manually I have to use the icon in the quick
launch bar rather than the button on my keyboard.

No help to you but I'm watching this thread with interest.

Did you upgrade to Vista with Firefox already installed, by any chance?
I'd suggest removing and then reinstalling Firefox; it added itself to
the default program list when I installed it.

What version of the IntelliType drivers are you using? I was able to
set both Firefox and Thunderbird as the programs for the specialized
keys to open, and it's performed flawlessly, so far. It also wouldn't
hurt to reinstall those latest drivers, just in case.

Thanks for the suggestion Bruce but mine was a clean install of Vista
Ultimate and Firefox was added later. I really am having an awful time
getting it to be the default. It asks me every time it starts if I want to
make it the default browser and every time I say yes. But it doesn't
remember from one session to the next.

And, when I click on a hotlink to the Web in Windows Mail, which I use
instead of Thunderbird, it opens in Internet Explorer even though it's not
the default browser. Crazy, not to mention maddening.

Would very much like to get this resolved. Also would like to know how to
add programs to the Default Programs list, and how to get Vista to remember
settings from one session to the next, and, and, and.......

Either 6.1 or 6.2 I'll have to check.
