Folder Options Registry Settings

M

Mark Wolski

I need to pre-configure the following Folder Options for each new user
profile:

"Display compressed files and folders with alternate color" = enabled
"Display the full path in the address bar" = enabled
"Do not show hidden files and folders" = enabled
"Hide file extensions for known file types" = disabled

These settings are profile specific, but do not appear in the Default User
hive as I expected. However, they do appear in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanc
ed\Folders

However, when I set the HideFileExt sub-key DefaultValue to zero, this value
does not carry over to the same location under the HKEY_USERS root key for a
new user profile. The same holds true for the ShowCompColor DefaultValue.
This technique does seem to work for ShowFullPathAddress, however.

I assume that I don't really understand how these keys interact. Can
someone help me get where I need to go?

Thanks,
Mark
