Folder Display Question

As far as I can recall all my files showed up in Win Explorer in black.
That is, the file names showed up in black whether in the List or Details
view. Recently I noticed that a lot are now showing up in blue, while some
remain in black. Switching between the views makes no difference. Whatever
is blue in List is blue in Details. What is causing this and, more
importantly, should I be concerned? Incidentally the same thing happens in
Word 2003. The files that are blue in Win Explorer are blue in Word.

The files with blue names have been compressed. Windows will compress files that
haven't been accessed recently to save space on your hard drive. Bottom line,
what you're seeing is normal behavior and not anything to be concerned about.

To see how this works, right click on one of those files and select Properties
from the menu. On the General page of the files properties sheet, hit the
Advanced button. In the Advanced Attributes dialog notice the check mark in the
box next to "Compress contents to save disk space". Remove the check mark and
click OK. The files name should now be black.

If you'd prefer not to see any difference in how files are listed go to Control
Panel and double click Folder Options. Click on the View tab. In the Advanced
settings box, remove the check mark from the box next to "Show encrypted or
compressed NTFS files in color". Click OK.

Good luck
