foggotten Windows password

I have an old laptop running windows 2000. I have
forgotten the password. I believe it is nearly impossible
to crack it ? So, I decided to load a new operating
system (windows XP).

Is this possible ? How ?
I have the XP CD but I believe I need to intrrupt the
boot process but I don't know which hot key allows this ?

I would appreciate any help.

Actually, it is very easy to crack the operating system password (I
assume that's what you mean and not a BIOS password). If you would like
to keep your Win2k installation, get this free utility:

Read the Readme. It's easy.

It might help if you just happened to mention the laptop brand, someone then
might help you with what key to press to get into the bios to change the
boot order so that you can boot from the XP cd. Typical keys are del, F1,
F2, esc but there's no set rule.
