Flash, Powerpoint, and autorun

I have created a Flash introduction (.swf) that transitions to powerpoint
(2003)slides with narration and video and runs beautifully. Except I cannot
get it to autorun? I have copied the contents of the "package for CD" folder
to Cd, but the presentation will not start- all I get is a Ppt. viewer
agreement then a black screen.

I vaguely remember that there was an article at www.indezine.com that
described some software that could add a flash 'intro' to a powerpoint cd
presentation.

Is the SWF included on the slide, or is it a standalone? If it's on the
slide, then the problem is that the PPT Viewer doesn't do Flash. You need
full-on PPT for that.

If it's that you need to run the SWF (in a browser?), then you need to
create an autorun.INF file that autoruns the SWF player/browser, and that
SWF or browser or whatever must then open the PPT Viewer and the
presentation after the SWF has played.

Echo S,

Thank you so much fo responding. We are aware that Ppt. viewer won't read
Flash. Our problem does exist with the .SWF file which is on the slide, and
with the full purchased version of PowerPoint.

We are not trying to get the SWF to run in a browser. We successfully
combined a Flash file (swf) onto a slide in Ppt. as an intro and then
followed that slide with several regular ppt. slides. The problem is when we
use the normal "package for CD" - autorun , that the CD will not autorun when
placed into a another computer system.

Package for CD uses the PPT Viewer to run the file, though. Check to see if
you have an autorun.INF file in your package for CD folder. Open it in
Notepad and see if it is calling the PPT Viewer. I'd bet it is. (If it says
open=ppview.exe, then it's calling the Viewer, not PPT (full program)
itself.)

Or it could be that the Active X control isn't installed on the system in
question. I think the easiest way to get that is to install the Flash player
plug-in for IE. I believe that's what PPT actually uses the control that
that process installs.

Echo S,

I think you are correct about the Pointpoint Viewer issue. We are
attempting to convert the swf to a wmf so the compatability with Powerpoint
improves. Getting all elements such as music, narration, and Flash in the
SWF to convert cleanly to wmf is challenging, but if we can do it the
compatibility and the autorun should be solved....we think.

Again We appreciate your time to help out.

You mean WMV? WMF is an image format. But yes, WMV video is the most
compatible if you can get the SWF converted.

Good luck with it. You might need to publish from Flash as a MOV, convert to
MPEG with QuickTime Pro, and then convert to WMV using something like
PFCMedia add-in for PPT (http://www.pfcmedia.com ) or Windows Movie Maker
or the like.

Um, judging by your email, "these folks" would include you. So why not just
say "we"?
