firewire what the heck

If i have a digital camera what good does firewire do?

It is not like I will play the video any faster because firewire can go
faster.

I will capture the video at the same rate even if I use usb or analog

Again. The question is: what the heck?

The firewire connection does not lose any quality and carries both audio and
video signals.

If you want poorer quality, by all means use analog or USB.

Greetings --

Just to add to Cari transfering over USB (unless it's 2.0) will also take
"months" to transfer a hour or so of DV video. USB is 12Mbps and Firewire
is 480 Mbps, thats a very large difference.

yes but if i am recording from a digital tape on my video camera, then speed
is not an issue.
The tape plays the same speed over usb or firewire or piano wire

Sure but it also drops numerous frames. Surely you want a good picture
since you've spent that much on your digital camcorder to begin with. If
you want just pictures and sound, then get the cheapest possible analog
camera (or even a webcam) and live with the results. But if you're ever
planning on burning to a DVD and playing on a 65" HDTV, you'll want it as
good as it can get.

I have an analog video camera and would like to put the video on DVD's. I have heard that I need a video capture card to do this... I have a fast computer with XP and all? of the necessary software I believe.
Is it even possible to transfer analog video into digital format? Can I download? it from the camera to the hard drive to allow editing?

Have a look in the "How To" section here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/

You'll need an analog capture card to convert your analog signal to digital.
All you need to do is plug in your video out and audio out to the analog
capture card in and sound card in and you will be fine.
