Firefox alternative?

Since Firefox has betrayed us by becoming "googleware" (betrayalware?)
it's time to move on and find an alternative non-IE browser. Should
we, freeware fans, support K-Meleon? But, wait a minute, that's Gecko
to, and can that still be trusted? What to do?
Perhaps this pc veteran will have to switch to Linux.

Hi Kansas!

I go well with K-Meleon.

It´s very good for unsizeable Sites, as IE cannot size any webpage ;-(
Nice small and fast Browser, with good diversity.

Why can K-Meleon not be trusted?

Hi!

Would you be kind and explain to me what is the problem? While I admit
Google is trying to become the next M$, I have no problem with their
asociation with OO.o or Firefox.

Help me understand.

Gecko is the rendering engine of the browsers (Firefox, K-Meleon ...) and
not the actual browser gui itself.

To my understanding K-Meleon can't be used to put the likes of Google
toolbar in it like Firefox can (plug-in) but, you can use Google or any
other eg: http://Clusty.com in K-meleon if you (the user) manually does
this.

I myself use and prefer K-Meleon (http://kmeleon.sorceforge.net) over any
other browser - in fact K-Meleon is my main 99.99% used browser - due to
it's speed, security, user-friendly and highly configurable user interface.

Browser like OB1 (http://OffByOne.com)are goog/nice but not really suited
for mass browsing - different sub-category of browser.

Kind regards

Easy - switch to Opera much better than either IE or Firefox

What utter and complete ****ing stupidity. If you're that ****ing
pathetic why are you using a Yahoo e-mail address as they're a
commercial operation?

ROFLMAO. YOU DON'T EVEN USE LINUX and you're going on about Firefox
selling out?

****ing hypocrite.

I missed the betrayal, but I doubt you'd be happy with browsers under
Linux. Galeon uses Gecko, and Konqueror uses KHTML, which has some
ties to Apple's Safari team.

There is a deal, but unfortunately the details aren't public. All
that's known (AFAICT) is that Google pays the Mozilla Foundation (
pays the Mozilla Corporation now, I guess) some money, and all
official builds of Firefox come with Google as the default search
engine.

<http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/applications/0,39020384,39189475,00.htm>

It doesn't seem like much of a betrayal, as any user can change the
default search engine. Mozilla also has partnerships
with Yahoo! search and Answers.com.

<http://news.com.com/Google+stars+in+Firefoxs+new+browser/2100-1032_3-5449172.html>
(toward the bottom, a mention MozCorp President Mitchell Baker about
the Yahoo! deal)

<http://www.mozilla.com/press/mozilla-2005-11-30.html>

The Google and Yahoo! deals go back a year or two; the Answers.com
one seems to be recent.

I wrote too soon. A deal with Yahoo! makes it the default search
engine in some Asian locales, and Yahoo! hosts the start pages for
those.

Precisely: all mozilla browsers use the gecko engine, but not all
gecko browsers are part of mozilla. I suspect the OP is confused,
and thinks "if it's gecko it must be mozilla".

I use K-Meleon, too -- it's been my default for about a year. I
love it, but I'm finding that more and more sites don't work in it.

I assume this is due not only to IE-specific code, but also to the
expanding use of XML -- but I could be wrong on that.

Same here -- I've had K-Meleon as my default for about a year now,
and I love it.

I am, though, finding that more and more sites are not working with
KM. What usually happens with these is that I click on a link, and
nothing happens -- but it's not an IE-specific thing, as the sites
work in FF and Opera. (XML or something? Dunno.)

It's not become a big enough problem to make me change my browser
default away from KM, but it's happening enough for me to notice
it, and to start thinking about what I might have to switch to in
the future.
