Finding it impossible to fix a FP2002 error

G

Guest

When attempting to save a page I've created in FP2002, I get the "unexpected
error not enough memory message." This is a brand new machine with 512
memory and 80g hard drive!

I've done the following:
Deleted the cmdui.prf file
Tried to delete the *.web files but none are found on my hard drive (I
selected show hidden file options and even tried the FrontPage utility fixer
deal suggested on this site - even it says that there are no .web files on
system). I don't even have the folder that these files are suppose to be
found under
I uninstalled and reinstalled FP2002
I updated all patches, fixes, etc. etc. from Microsoft - both for Windows
and Office
Ran disk defrag, disk cleanup, etc.
Ran a utility I have that cleans my registry

Despite all this, the d*mn error keeps popping up. I'm about ready to throw
my computer out the door! Any suggestions?

Does this only happen with a single page or all pages?

Thomas:

It happens whenever I try to open any page that I've created OR when I try
to save any page that I create. When the error occurs, I hit the "ok" button
and it allows me to continue working. However, if I have more than 3 pages
open at a time, the 4th page is half missing (like there's not enough memory
to show the entire page). If I close the other 3 pages, then the 4th page
will show entirely. So for some reason, FP thinks I'm low on memory. By the
way, these are very light web pages I'm working with.

And if this helps, I'm not using any web servers. I simply create these
pages using FP and then save them in a folder under "My Documents."

Is the folder a web folder, meaning that you have open this folder via File Menu | Open Web?

No. I just open FP, and then from there I go to File > Open (NOT Open Web).
When I select Open, my "master folder", which contains all the web pages I've
created and saved, is listed under My Documents. I open that folder and then
select the various web pages I need to edit. When I try to open any of them,
I get the error...and whenever I try to save no pages to this folder, I get
the error as well.

Steven - I followed the directions on that site to clear my paging file, but
it didn't help. I'm still getting the error.

If I upgrade to FP 2003, will this eliminate the problem?

You have to open a web / site, not matter which version of FP you are using, this should solve the
issue you are currently having.

What do you mean? I have created and saved over 175 pages doing it the way
I described without any problems. This problem just started a few days ago.
If I have 175 pages saved in a folder - that is in the My Documents directory
- how would I go about opening "web files" verses the files I have??? I'm a
little confused.

File Menu | Open Web and browse to the folder holding those 175 pages.

Then in the future always use File Menu | Open Web before working on your site content. Make sure to
always create or import any content into your current open FP web / site first.
