File is disappeared after saving?

Hi,

I have a really strange problem, I've been struggling for a day and could not figure out what's going to make this happen. A user came to me saying that she was working on a huge excel file and she saved it and did file-close. This file is on a network share drive H:. Then she went back to look for the file, it's not there. And she went back to excel, the saved file link was still there, she clicked on it, it gave her error message " the file cannot be found....". I searched the whole file server and her hard drive. Couldn't find any, I'm just stumped. She convinced that she did save, and then the file is disappeared. Can someone explain how could this happen? I like to find out the reason to prevent furture mistake or problems.

Appreciate any thought.

Sarah

I doubt its a network server issue. In any case, you can always audit the
mentioned folder at the server.

Recreate the sequence of events, which is probably due to Excel's file size
( a known issue). More precisely, its related to Excel's limitation as far
as the memory allowed for components like formulas in a spreadsheet.

Its likely that the user failed to disclose the fact that an exception was
generated when the Excel spreadsheet was saved. The workaround is to link
cells or data blocks between workbooks/spreadsheets.

Hi Salt,
Really thank you for your reply. Now I have something to take a look
referring your ideas. I tried to turn on the audit on the network folder, it
didn't do anything, I probably missed something.
I went to Domain Controller as well as the file server, open the foler and
setup auditing to this excel update group.
Then I turned on the audit on domain security policy on audit object access.
I created a file in this folder, but I don't see any log in security log in
event viewer of this server.
Did I miss anything?
Please advice,
Thansk,
sarah
