File does not open from shortcut bar

A recent thread started with a question to see if Office 2k runs ok with the
XP OS. The response was returned that it works perfectly. I found this not
to be true. If enabled on the shortcut bar, Access (the program) will start
the program, then you can select the file you want to open; but in our case
we only use one file, so we add the file to shortcut bar. When clicked, the
Access data file will not even open the program much less the file. Anyone
with ideas why this does not work?

Hi.
Anyone
with ideas why this does not work?

A "normal" Windows shortcut requires exactly what one would put on the
command line to open the file: the full path and file name of the
executable, followed by a space, followed by the full path and file name of
the file to be opened, followed by a space, followed by the first optional
command line argument, followed by a space, followed by the second optional
command line argument, et cetera.

If your shortcut is missing any of these non-optional items in the command
line, then the shortcut may not work correctly. And if any non-alphanumeric
characters (except underscore characters) are embedded within the path or
file name, then that argument needs to be enclosed with double quotes so
that the operating system will recognize where the string starts and ends.

Thank you for responding.

I agree that the command line needs the correct information and I verified
the path by viewing the "Properties". In addition, I did not do anything
fancy, I only used the standard protocol to add the file by merely
Right-clicking on the shortcut bar, selecting "Customize", using the
"Buttons" tab I clicked "Add File". I checked to see if Word or Excel files
open from the bar and they do. Only the Access files do not.

I have Access 2003, so I have no way of testing alternatives for you, but
how about creating a Windows shortcut with the complete information in the
Target Property, and then selecting that shortcut file when you get to the
point of "Add File" when customizing the Shortcut Bar?
