File and Printer Sharing don't work when using VPN

Mine and my Dad's PCs run Windows XP Proffesional and are both connected
via a wired connection to a wirless router with 4 lan ports (NETGEAR
WGR614) with IPs on automatic, and this is used for sharing a cable
broadband connection and also file and printer sharing. But my dad has a
peice of software on his computer called "Check Point VPN-1
SecureClient" which he uses to connect to work, but when he runs this
(and he like to leave it running because he mainly uses his PC to
connect to work) I cannot file or printer share with him and he cannot
file or printer share with me, the Internet can still be accessed but
when I try accesing his computer from the list of computers on our
workgroup I get:
"\\Steve is not accessible. You might not have permision to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found"
But when he's not running it I can access it fine. Do anyone know what I
can do please?

The VPN (Virtual Private Network) Client on your Dad's computer puts him on
the network at his workplace through the Internet (hence his Internet
access). Since your computer is still only on the home network and not on the
workplace network, you can't access him and he can't access you.
