File and Printer Sharing

I have two identical PCs both running XP Pro SP2. I am able to see each
machine from each machine but neither will connect to the other. I see the
Workgroup and each PC and all the shared folders and drives but when I click
on the other machine's shares Explorer freezes. I can ping both ways,
Network Connection Status shows connected, both access the internet. It's
just the File and Printer Sharing not working. I have Use Simple File Sharing
checked, and I have shared every drive and folder on each machine.

The fact that you can see the PCs does not mean that you have set
sharing rights correctly. I can see all my 1000 PCs on my network but I
don't have sharing rights on some of them.

Go the one of the PCs and then right-click on the folders you want to
share. Select Sharing and security item and in the middle of the
dialogue box you will see the tab for SHARING. Make sure at least
"Share this folder on the network" is checked.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that had been done from the beginning. When I first installed XP on both
PCs, Networking and File Sharing worked fine. After a month or so it quit. I
reinstalled XP and it worked again. But it has stopped working. I thought it
might have been an update so I haven't DL'd any this time, and it quit anyway.
I have printed all the KB articles and followed them, including replacing
the Security Database.
I had unchecked Simple File Sharing and it worked fine for a while. Now, the
Browser seems to work, but no sharing.

I have identical users with the same password on each. I am the only one who
uses them. The only difference in the two is the software apps on each. I run
Network Connection Wizard on each and it says everything is fine.

I know it's got to be a permission setting or similar.

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.

If you're running with Simple File Sharing unchecked, setup, activate, and use a
common, non-Guest account with identical password on each computer. If you're
going to have SFS checked, then activate Guest for network access.
