Thanks to Jerry for pointing me to JSI Tip #2365.

However, I tried to modify the registry variables mentioned but regedit
converted the type from REG_EXPAND_SZ to REG_SZ. This means that the
reference to %UserProfile% won't be expanded. How do I enter the right
type?
Google pointed me to lots of Perl info, but that is too complicated. Tweak
Manager was too confusing. RegEdt32 doesn't work either.

Hi William - Use Regedt32 to handle that type of variable. I would
recommend making a BACKUP of any keys you change first, also.

You need to do this in regedt32 not regedit

Well heres' a better editor for the registry.

I'm not the author or affiliated with it, just didn't see it mentioned
anywhere and it's a shame cos it's almost perfect. It allows easily changing
the data types (REG_SZ to REG_EXPAND_SZ and way more).
You need to do this in regedt32 not regedit
