fast Win98 folder access, VERY slow WinXP folder access / file lis

Server runs Win2003 Std
4 wkstns running WinXP Pro
1 wkstn running Win98
1 wkstn running Win95

Any apps requiring files to be opened from the Server by the user on the XP
machines will show the hour-glass for over 1 minute as the full file listing
is retreived (over 10,000 files in one folder, but unavoidable). Access to
the same folder from the 98 / 95 machines take about 1 second.

It's a regular TCP/IP network through a Netgear router.

I had the same speed issues when the server ran NT4.0 Server.

Any pointers?

Thanks

Deleting this registry key fixed it for me with no
noticeable side effects.
