Farcry on a crap machine

J

Joe Gallagher

Recently installed Farcry on my ole PIII 1ghz w/ a ATI 9600 AIW card.
And low and behold, I cranked the settings to very high and ultra high to
see the so called eye candy, and the game is still highly playable.
AND IT LOOKED REALLY, REALLY GOOD. On the little machine I put together
almost 4 years ago.
Oh what a feeling...............................

Playable is very subjective, at those settings at 1024 I find my
9800pro/xp3200 a bit slow by times. Might I suggest 3dmark2005 to you, I
think you'd enjoy it...

No need to 3dmark it, if it works, then dont touch it, getting to run on
that machine is a credit to you, what are the other particulars for that
machine of yours, ram etc?

Why?

If he can play games to his satisfaction then why does a number from a
highly questionable benchmark make any difference?

Sorry no. I don't feel so inadequate that a score on a questionable
benchmark is of the utmost importance.

Nope, he doesen't get it.

Hey Joe, have you tried DOOM 3 on ultra high? How many frames do you get?

J

Joe Gallagher

Dont have Doom. I just bought Farcry yesterday to see if the rig would run
it with my new ATI AIW 9600XT.
I have the original Splinter Cell, GTA III and IronStorm.
I'm not much of a gamer, but there is no better way to check your
rig.............

Its a good game and I'm glad you can enjoy it at decent settings - out of
interest - what screen resolution are you
using ? btw - ignore the stuff about 3dmark 2005. I've seen it and all I can
say is whoopee f***in doo.

I don't think 3DMark05 will run on your machine, minimum reqs. include 2
GHz processor.
The CPU tests are a slideshow even if you have an Athlon64 FX and a X800 XT.

I think it's entirely possible for Far Cry to be playable on your
machine. I installed Doom 3 on my friends 900 MHz + Radeon 9200. It
looks like crap, I had to heavily tweak it out, it gets >15 fps at
640x480, but you can sort of play it. This guy isn't used to high
performance so he isn't bothered by it. I couldn't take it. I also
installed Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow on his machine, it runs great
and looks great at 800x600, even by my standards.

J

Well I run 1024 by 768 at 85 on my 21" CRT.
WHAT PART OF LOOKS GOOD DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? And highly playable.
Must be your friends sub system or something. I built this machine 4 years
for my video editing. I run Farcry from my RAID array so maybe that helps.
Why do people insist on trying to demonstrate their IQ's?

1024x768 at 85hz. On an "old" Mitsubishi Diamondtron 21" CRT (Still looks
Fantastic)
