Factory.exe Failed to install Network Adapter - check Winbom

Hi, I am receiving the above error meesage when trying to install Windows XP
Service Pack 2 with a batch of HP dc7700 Small Form Factor PC's. The PC's
come fitted with the Intel 82566 NIC. I have loaded the pre-installed
factory OS and tried the drivers that I have so I know that they install
fine. I am running RIS on W2K3 servers, and have a WinPE environment. All
other machines that I have in my estate have worked fine, without a problem.
I receive a new batch of machines and then I encounter this problem. I have
also changed the switch in our batch file that begins the process to factory
- winpe, although this does suppress the error message, I still am not
receiving a DHCP address. This tells me the card has not installed.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Are the proper Plug and Play ID details for the network adapter card
entered in the [NetCard] section of the winbom.ini file?

Hi John, There are no entries in the netcard section of the winbom file.
Can you give me an example of what should be there?

cheers

Karl

If there are no entries in the netcard section of the winbom.ini file
the factory command should scan for all network adapters and find and
properly identify the adapter. If entries are in the netcard section
then the factory command doesn't do a full scan and uses the information
in the netcard section to install the adapter. So, it looks like that
isn't the cause of your problem. I thought that maybe entries from your
previous deployment might have been there with information from the old
adapter so I made the suggestion to check it out. The information in
the netcard section would be the ID number of the device and the path to
the .inf file, example:

PCI\VEN_10B7&DEV_9200&SUBSYS_00C71028&REV_78\4&BB7B4AE&0&60F0=%systemroot%\nic\3comxxx.inf

You could try sticking the proper id there, but as I said earlier if the
section is empty that probably isn't the problem... unless the factory
command can't identify the adapter, then maybe putting the id there
might help.
