Explorer VX2.DLL error

R

MS Explorer no longer works on my computer. In fact, not only can I not
surf the net, but I can't even look at files on my own computer! I keep
getting an error message saying "Explorer has caused an error in VX2.DLL".
Sometimes it will be an error in KERNEL32.DLL.

I started getting this error after I installed the latest version of
Explorer back in March. I was able to temporarily solve the problem by
restoring my computer to a prior date, but I would have to do this a couple
of times a week. Then I made the mistake of trying to clear some more
memory off of my hard drive and accidently erased all my restore points. Of
course, then the error happened again and now I'm stuck!

Everything else works fine (Outlook, CuteFTP, other programs, etc.). I'm
running Windows ME. The only thing I can think of to do is to re-install
Windows, but I don't know where my install disk is. Any suggestions?

Have you scanned for Spyware? VX2 is Spyware. There are different
variants.
Info at this link:
http://www.cexx.org/vx2.htm

You need to get these programs:
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org
Ad-aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
They are both free, download the programs, Very Important* check for
updates before scanning*. Both sites have help and information about the
programs.

Some Spyare can kill your internet connection, before removing the spyware,
download LSPFIX from here:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm:

SPYWARE INFO:

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.aumha.org/
http://secunia.com/

Windows Updates - Update Windows regularly (at the very least once a
month) - ALWAYS download Critical Updates. You can set your computer for
automatic updates if you prefer.

When you run the Spware programs and kill any spyware/garbage turn OFF
System Restore. If you leave it on any spyware these programs find will be
fixed, but still in your Restore, therefore, you need to turn it off. You
can turn it back on once you have cleaned your system of all
spyware/garbage.
