explorer keeps hanging

Hello,

Can anyone tell me why windows explorer keeps hanging.
Without fail if I browse "C:\Documents and
Setting\"User's name"\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files" explorer hangs, and I'm told the program is not
responding would I like to send a report to microsoft.
After choosing yes or no the screen goes blank (just the
wallpaper no icons or task bar)then everything comes back
and I can continue working normally except for browsing
the above mentioned folder.

I get that too with this message:

Explorer.exe - Application error
The instruction at "0x77f57d85" referenced
memory at "0x773e721a". The memory could
not be "written".

It also comes up with other addresses and 'The memory could not be "read".'

There is some documentation about the problem and its characterization
here, but no explanation of how to fix it: just an inconvenient work-around.

Does an MVP have any idea about what the root of problem is, and how to
fix it?
