explorer.exe error on boot.

last evening, one of my windows profiles (yes, just one) started getting an
explorer.exe error when it attempted to boot into windows. upon doing so, it
shows just the desktop wallpaper, with no start bar or icons at all.

As far as I can tell, the system is still technically "running" however.

on a seperate note, i'm also having difficulty getting my 5.1 surround
speakers working on my second windows profile. It allows me to change the
options in sound to 5.1, but it doesn't actually switch to the 5.1 surround
sound mode.

right now though, getting my main windows profile working is my top
priority, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks.

This behavior can occur if the Windows settings for a particular user
account are corrupted.
