I've noticed many of you reporting the same unknown Device
Driver crash, that I began experiencing about a month or
two ago. Things kept getting worse, etc.
I reformatted the other day, and decided to do some
testing.
I decided not to install any device drivers until all SP1a
and related critical hotfixes were installed.
I installed SP1a without problem. When I installed all the
hotfixes, the crashes began immediately. So I uninstalled
all of the hotfixes (time consuming BTW). Changed my mind,
and installed only the device drivers and three games,
Office, Norton Systemworks and Quicken.
I then proceeded to install each critical update
individually last night(time consuming again), and reached
the half-way point. I went to bed, letting the system run
Prime95 to stress the system out. I woke up this morning
to a system that was still running the test, and is stable.
I have installed all of the critical updates since then,
one at a time, without problem. I did have two crashes, so
I did not install those updates until the end.
I currently am installing the recommended updates, one at
a time, so if I crash, I just uninstall the udpate, and
proceed.
I think that conflicts are happening based on the order
the updates are installed. The two updates that crashed
were #329115 and 823980(blaster fix). But they installed
fine at the end.
Just a thought for some of you to consider trying.
