We are using CompactFlash as the storage media for a Windows XP Embedded operating system. The problem is that the CompactFlash be recognized by Windows XP Embedded as a removable media. We want to use the Windows XP Embedded Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) to write-protect the image on the partition. Which CF type supports make the cf a fixed disk
I know sandisk have a utility for the line of industrial cards that will allow to make the disk a fixed disk on XP. Is there another manufactor support this features

Thank you for helping

Search back through posts by Slobodan Brcin, he's written a howto on this,
which gets mentioned about three times a day.

Hi Heidi,

It's good to see you are back.

It's more how to use RAM EWF without temporary partition, then how to mark
disk as fixed disk.

I don't know the exact models, but most manufacturers will provide you with
utilities to mark their CF cards as non-removable. Or you can even order CF
that are already prepared that way. (This is much better for mass
production, it saves you time)

The last industrial CF cards I purchased from SanDisk didn't need the
removable bit set. They 'just worked'. The model number is
SDCFB-256-201-80, manufacture date is 01/13/04.

I know CF card works with Ram EWF component but if you need a second partition then
it will only work with the non removable bit set ont the CF card

The SanDisk 201's are seen as Fixed Media, and the 101's are Removable
Media. I was under the impression (although could be wrong) that the 101's
weren't available anymore, and that SanDisk had replaced them with the
201's?

Ben.
