Ethernet & Wireless Comm Ports blocked- Spyware or Virus???

Hello,
The problem is that my laptop is slowly losing access to its comms ports
that are used to connect to the WWW. The Ethernet port has almost stopped
working. The dialog box @ the bottom taskbar changes from “a cable is
disconnected†to “the cable is connectedâ€. It changes from one statement to
the next as quickly as it is possible. During that time the Ethernet port is
disabled. I have noticed that if I unplug the Ethernet cable and plug it back
in a few minute later, it will work.
I have a Wireless pc card that I now have been using but the access to the
WWW is now being interfered with.
I have been using Norton Internet Security 2005 & 2006 and have just started
using Windows Defender (beta 2), Spybot and Ad Aware. There were several
issues that were found and they been quarantined or deleted but the comms
problem still exists.
Is this spyware or a virus? If so how do I delete it?
Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated,
Willy C

you might have infections and tracking cookies and your registry probably
needs cleaning and tuning up.

but you should check your firewall first. In windows firewall, click on one
of the tabs and find restore defaults and click. on that same tab be sure
you don't have any addition connections check/operational other than your lan
or wireless lan connections. then on another tab be sure that everything
is unchecked, remote assistance, file sharing, etc..., Finally, on the
first tab check firewall on and "no exceptions".

Norton internet security is a great firewall. but until you figure out what
the problem is I would disable it and use windows firewall in the meantime.
Also, i would go ahead and disable all those sypbots, anti adware, etc.....
since your system has been checked you could temporarily disable them. You
may have to go start > run > msconfig > startup tab > and disable everything
in there too. Reboot, log into windows and the net and see if your problem
is fixed. If so, then something you disabled may have been causing the
issues....

I would download CCleaner from filehippo.com and run the cleaner and
registry tune up. Then I would download a free called Spyware Terminator and
run the antivirus and spyware. This will ensure that the other ones you had
didn't miss anything. Then it may not hurt if you downloaded a trial ware
like system mechanic and let it check out your pc thoroughly.

Before disabling anything make sure you have manually creatd a restore
point. Then after you disable everything and reboot, make another manual
restore point. Then after you download all of the above, clean and tuneup
your pc, make another restore point.

Hi Willy C,

Do you have Network Magic installed and if so, which version?

Also, if you don't, disable Windows Defender, Spybot and Ad Aware from
starting up at Boot. Then start each program, one at a time and see what
happens.
