error

hi,
I am doing a dcpromo for a lab server with win2000server. The server does
NOT connect to the internet for my reasons. I got this error after the part
of the dcpromo that define for the dns server for this new domain that I am
creating: "The operation failed with the folowing error: The network
location can not be find."
As far as you can do DCPROMO even if the server is NOT connected to the
internet and his is just a stand alone server. So why do I get this error ?
There is a way to do DCpromo to a server that is NOT connected to any other
device or PC ?

thanks.

You need DNS installed, or else you should install it during the promotion.

To create an Active Directory domain you must have an active network
connection/IP address. There does not have to be a real network - eg. you
could simply connect your NIC to an empty hub or switch and dcpromo would
work fine. Or, use the Add Hardware wizard to 'install' the Microsoft
Loopback adapter - this will work as well.

Dear Gil ,
You need to install a NIC in order to the system can analyse the location or
setup a xDSL instead of it.
