Dcpromo error

Testing backup and recovery. I was able to recover root
domain active directory from Tape backup. Then I made
another win2k server and dcpromo it for new child domain
in the existing tree and forest but dcpromo gets failed
with error that could not contact root domain. Before
dcpromo I made sure that both the servers are talking to
each other.What can be the reason?

Can you describe your DNS configuration ? use nslookup to verify
nameresolution in both directions.
