Error sound when logging off

This is an intersting one:

When logging off of both of the user accounts on my XP Pro machine, I am
getting an error sound ('windows xp ding.wav' found in c:\windows\media if
you want to check the sound I mean) which suggests to me that something is
not quite right with the log off routine.

Does XP have any way of logging the log-off routine so I can check to see if
there is anything that needs my attention? My computer has not always done
this and it's starting to irritate me a little. My machine isn't
malfunctioning in any way and I'm pretty sure that this is just cosmetic, but
it's something that I want to check.

I hope someone out there can help me...

Big Liam :)

If it's not giving an error message and nothing seems to be wrong, did you
happen to look and see what sound has been set for log off? Has anything been
installed or changed recently? If you go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio
Devices and Sound Scheme, you can check to see what sound is listed for log
off. Hope that helps

Thanks for your reply Kelly.

I've covered that, it's not a setting in the sound scheme side of things,
this is definitley an 'event' thats happening at log-off. Something is
trying to be brought to my attention, but the computer is logging off before
the corresponding error message can be displayed on my desktop...

I'm gonna try disabling each of the programs running in the notification
area one at a time and see if it's a shutdown warning from something there...

I'll keep you all posted as I know what a fascinating problem this must be
for you!!!
