jusched.exe hanging when logging off

When logging off, I frequently have a dialog box opening telling me that
jusched.exe cannot be stopped. I'm then offered to stop it manually and I
can then log off ?
How can I correct this ?
I see three programs with that name in c:\Proram Files\Java\jre1.5.0_6\bin ,
in Java\jre1.5.0_11\bin , and in Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin.

That is the file that checks automatically for updates for java. You don't
need that running, just check for updates manually. Disable it from
msconfig. Go to start | run | msconfig | Ok. On the startup tab find the
reference for it and remove it.

When you reboot you'll get a dialog box from msconfig saying it's running in
diagnostic mode. Just check the box that says don't alert me again.

On another note when installing the most recent update for java you should
first remove the old versions. In this case there are three versions
installed: 1.5 version 6, 1.5 version 11, and 1.6 version 1. Go to
add/remove programs and uninstall the older versions, leaving 1.6.1.

The update check can be disabled in the Control Panel applet javacpl.cpl. I
have it set to notify only and it does not cause any problems. On the other
hand I usually receive notification of the update from another source (such
as this NG) before it offers me the update through the so-called automatic
check. If you use the Java Control Panel applet it should modify the startup
registry without the user having to access it through msconfig .

Thank you. I'll try this and let you know. Thank you also for pointing out
to me the needd to uninstall the previous versions of Java. I wonder why the
Java installer did not suggest this, but ...

You're welcome. I don't know why it doesn't, maybe in case someone is
testing / development and needs various versions installed? Or just not
well thought out.

Good luck.
