Hello bxboy,

Try Steve Dodson recommended solution:

1) Uninstall WD thru Add and Remove Programs

2) Launch cmd prompt

3) MsiExec.exe /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

4) Delete all contents of Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates

5) Reinstall WD

Hello,

Remove the current signature file. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type the following line (copy and past if you
wish), and then click Ok.

Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

2. Open Windows Defender.
3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options arrow next
to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender, and then
click Check for Updates.

Which fix have you tried so far?

Actually, Eric Cross' solution looked better to me.

One machine that I tried (in error) this on did not, in fact, have this
subtree under All Users--not sure what to make of that.

Sorry but none off the above solutions does not work for me to. I'm still
having the some problem. My OS is Windows Server 2003 SP1.

TRIED BUT STILL DIDN'T WORK. TRIED ALL SUGGESESTIONS. ALSO UNABLE TO LOCATE
THE FOLLOWING.

:Delete all contents of Directory of C:\Documents and
Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates

Can you reiterate what message you are seeing? Is there a WSUS server on
your network? If so, you will need to enable the new category of updates
and allow the signatures to be published.

Can you visit WindowsUpdate on this server, and if you do, are the signature
files shown as available updates?

This is a hidden folder, I believe. It is easiest to find by doing it at a
command prompt.

cd \
cd documents and settings
cd all users
cd application data
cd microsoft
cd windows defender
cd definition updates
explorer .

(however, I looked for this on a Windows 2000 machine I was working on and
didn't find it--so perhaps it really doesn't exist in some installs.)
