Error message on web pages visited with IE6 on WinXP Home: "Internet Explorer was unable to link to

Whenever I visit web pages, I see messages like the following in places
where ads are supposed to be. I have deactivated the ad blocking and pop ad
blocking from Norton Internet Security, but the same message appears. Has
somebody seen this before and do you know of a fix?

Please try the following:

a.. Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

b.. If you have visited this page previously and you want to view
what has been stored on your computer, click File, and then click Work
Offline.

c.. For information about offline browsing with Internet Explorer,
click the Help menu, and then click Contents and Index.

Thank you Henri! I think this is probably it. I'll allow some of the major
ad providers so that I avoid most of these annoying action cancelled
messages.
