error message (0xc0000005)

i get the following error message while trying to install
programmes- the application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000005). any help would be appreciated, i am running
windows xp home addition with sevice pack 1 installed.

Make sure that the software you have installed explicitly states that it's
is compatible with XP - eg old incompatible antivirus programs can sometimes
cause these sort of errors
