0xc0000005 Errors

Guest

My computer consistently displays this application error when I am trying to
start many of my games on my machine: "The application failed to initialize
properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." Freelancer,
Knights of the Old Republic 2, and several others produce this error.
Sometimes a restart will fix the problem, but in many cases it takes several
tries. I run Windows XP SP2, and I have the latest updates, with the
exception of IE, since I use Firefox. I did download the supposed fix through
automatic updates, and it appeared to work for a while, but these errors have
started cropping up again. I also upgraded my RAM, as I have heard that this
error is related to memory faults, but I still have the same problem.

My system spec: Athlon T-Bird 1.3ghz, Soyo K7VTAPRO mobo, 512mb SDRAM,
40gb/250gb HDDs, nVidia GeForce FX5500OC 128mb

Can anyone help me with this?

Background information on Error message
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms796183.aspx

I would say that your problem is buggy drivers provided with the games
but check you have the latest video drivers from Nvidia.

You should keep Internet Explorer updated as you will using as the
relies on it and not your browser substitute. That does not mean you
have to update to IE7. Just keep IE6 up to date.

Adding memory does not address any memory faults (if any). You need to
test memory.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double

the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

If you have mix and match memory types, you'd see this. I would say to
grab the latest NVidia drivers (163.75) and NVidia finally went to to
us AGP folks who still use the FX series. Give it a shot. Also, is the
BIOS up to date on your motherboard?

Ok, here is what the event viewer tells me:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 12/2/2007
Time: 3:49:27 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ECC
Description:
Application popup: Freelancer.exe - Application Error : The application
failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the
application.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Help and Support Center shows me this:

Details
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 26
Source: Application Popup
Version: 5.2
Symbolic Name: STATUS_LOG_HARD_ERROR
Message: Application popup: %1 : %2

Explanation
The program could not load a driver because the program user doesn't have
sufficient privileges to access the driver or because the drive is missing or
corrupt.

User Action
To correct this problem:

- Ensure that the program user has sufficient privileges to access the
directory in which the driver is installed.
- Reinstall the program to restore the driver to the correct location.

I am the only user and I have admin privileges. When I upgraded my RAM, I
replaced my 256mb stick with a known good 512mb stick. I have the latest
nVidia driver set, and Sound Blaster driver set. I am updating my bios and
restarting my computer when I'm done this message.

No change thus far, it's still making this error. Last night it worked fine
tho...

Thx
Ernie
