I have scoured Google Groups and the Microsoft KB and have yet to find
a solution for my particular problem. A Filemon trace hasn't revealed
the problem to me either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I attempt to open certain applications (all MS applications,
Adobe, Filemon, regedit) from the Start Menu, I receive the following
error followed by a successful application load:
Cannot find the file '(null)' (or one of its components). Make sure the
path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available.
I am able to open a file for the application via Windows Explorer or my
Desktop without receiving the error. Placing a Shortcut on the Desktop
returns mixed results. For MS applications, I still get the error.
For Adobe, for example, the error does not occur.
When attempting to install an application, like Yahoo Messenger, I
receive the following error and the installation terminates:
Cannot find the file 'regedit' (or one of its components). Make sure
the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available.
The first time I noticed this behavior was after uninstalling some
software (Audible Manager & MSN Messenger). I reinstalled and
uninstalled the software again hoping that the issue would resolve, but
it did not.
Does anyone have any ideas on what's wrong and how to fix it?
Thanks.
