Error copying files during setup

E

estafford

I formated my drive and tried to install win2000 pro. During the set up, I
received several messages stating that set up could not copy file X [X being
the file name]
Retry or skip
I tried to select retry but always got the error again, so I skiped.

The files are
during initial setup...
esent.dll
papa.ttf
papai.ttf
rsvp.exe
netm32a.inf

During OS setup.
Xlisten.dl_
msoe.dl_
vgx.dl_

What steps should I take from here?

Thanks

Hi ES,
Most likely, you've got a bad (dirty, scratched?) CD, or bad blocks on your
hard disk.

Run CHKDSK /R against the hard disk, to find and mark any bad blocks, and
check out the data-side of the Windows CD. If it's just dirty, clean it, if
it's scratched, take it to a PC repair shop and have them rub out the
scratches (or get one of those kits at a computer store).

Alternately, you can try copying the installation files (the entire i386
directory) from CD to hard disk, and running Setup from the hard disk, but
if the CD or hard disk is bad / scratched / etc this will likely also fail.
