Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. The password was not allowed.

Situation: After logging onto a secure website, there is a third party
application that runs on the remote website, that allows for the downloading
of software patches and such. The software allows the user to select several
patches and then perform a single download of a file. In the browser the
user is supposed to be prompted as to where to save this file, for example
123148nlk344939.EXE

The file is not comping from the same server in which a user has logged
onto. Rather as seen in the ISA 2006 log, that the website is passing a
logon and password to another server for FTP, ie
ftp://username:*********99.999.999/SOMECLIENTNUMBER/SOMEFOLDER/FUNNYNUMBEREDEXEFILE.EXE

PROBLEM:
In IE 6 with all the latest patches, this process works exactly as expected.
Files are downloaded and everything is perfect.

After upgrading to IE 7, the same process results in this error:

Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. The password was not allowed. The password
might have been changed or typed incorrectly. Try typing the password again.
If the problem continues, contact the administrator for the remote server
and reprot the problem. (12014)
IP Address: <Remote Server Third Party IP>
Date: <current date attempted>
Server: <my internal ISA 2006 Server>
Source: Proxy

In searching I am seeing some notes for ISA 2004 that mention putting the
username password in the url...but I am not the one creating the script to go
an get this file, I also am using ISA 2006, and in the isa log, it looks like
that format is being attempted.

Again, this only happens for IE 7 upgrades, NOT for IE 6, it still works
just fine.

If I were to contact the third party of the site I am accessing per the
error message, what exactly am I to tell them?

Or is there another workaround.

The ISA log shows failed connection attempt from IE 7 machine, where as the
IE 6 machine it works fine. This is true of 2 IE 7 upgrades and several IE 6
machines. I can re-create the problem each time.

Thanks

This message board is the only one that shows up per my TechNet Managed
Newsgroups, I am confident that a MS person will reply per my agreement in 24
hours.

If there is however a way to post to other newsgroups and guarentee a reply
from Microsoft, then I would be interested. THanks for now.

Well, that's screwed up for sure. While this newsgroup may be available via
TechNet Managed Newsgroups, it's available via other web interfaces (e.g.,
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx; see
below) as well is via an NNTP newsreader (e.g., Outlook Express; see below)
and is not solely a TechNet Managed newsgroup.

Furthermore, 99.9% of those responding here don't represent Microsoft
either.

Actually, you'll find more Microsoft presence in IE General than in this
one.

Best of luck.

Dear customer,

Thank you for posting here!

However, I notice you have posted the same question in our newsgroup, which
I have already responded. So please check my answer there and if you need
any further assistance on this particular issue, please reply to me in that
thread so I can follow up with you in time. Also, please don't cross-post
the same question in multiple newsgroups in the future so that our
engineers can work on your question efficiently. Your understanding and
cooperation is appreciated.

Have a nice day!

If he has one of those paid accounts someone from MS will answer him here
within whatever working days.

Hey Tom,
Thank you for your reply, while I typically do not post in two places or
"cross-post" as you put it, I was told that the IE group would give me a
better response, despite the fact that I noted the source of the error as the
Proxy source.

From experience, I have posted, waited my 24 hours, and got a very simple
reply of, please post in this group...leaving me waiting another 24 hours for
a reply. I am sure that you understand.

I will read and reply to your post in the Security newgroup.

I understand, but why do they use a publicly available IE6-specific
newsgroup for IE7 queries/problems? Jeez...

What's "our newsgroup", Tom?

Found it:

X-post to ISA newsgroup.

I agree totally!

Unfortunately, when I log into my TechNet subscription, the Managed
Newsgroups only gives me a finite number of boards to post on.

For example, the IE boards are all 6.0 nothing for 7.0 so what choice do I
have. I think I run into the same thing with Exchange 2007 and ISA 2006

Actually per my SA agreement I am supposed to get Managed newsgroups for
various software licenses I have purchased. If I don't see an exact item,
then I pick a best fit.

Thanks.

Because different groups at MS are apparently not allowed to talk each
other.
