Error code 0x8007007f

I have just reinstalled Windows XP Pro and SP2, everything seemed to be
going fine until it had finished and I tried to log in, as soon as I click
on my user name I get an error report "A problem is preventing Windows from
accurately checking the license for this computer: Error Code 0x8007007f.

As you can expect, this prevents me from getting into the PC and correcting
the problem.

How can I resolve this issue without reinstalling the OS again?

Thanks

Hi Chuck,

I can log in as administrator in safe mode, NP there. I ran the workround in
the URL you sent me but this does not resolve the problem.

Any other ideas?

Hi Briggers
I'm also facing this problem from last two days but don't know how to fix
this problem. Me too can login in safe mode but can't login as normal user.
I also post for this help and some body give this suggestion u can also try
may this help u, last solution i already tried did not help me but i'll try
first solution when i get home. I'm using Xp Pro. If u are able to fix this
pls post back here.

See if this solution by MVP Rick Rogers helps (obviously you'll be doing
all this in Safe Mode which you can still get into):

Click start/run, type "regsvr32 regwizc.dll" (without the quotes) and
click "ok". Then do the same for "regsvr32 licdll.dll". You should get
a successful message for both and it should resolve the error message.
If not, then try these steps:

Start the computer in Safe mode by hitting F8 at startup. Click
start/run, type regedit and click ok. Expand the branches in the left
pane by clicking the plus (+) signs to reach these keys:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

Click on the folder representing each key and delete them one at a time.
You may want to create a backup before doing so by clicking file/export
and saving a copy to the desktop. If there is a problem after deleting,
you can put the key back by double-clicking it. If there is no problem,
you can delete the key later. When finished, restart the system
normally after closing the registry editor.

Note: If you used reset5 to crack the Windows XP installation
previously, the above steps will not work.

Hi Jatinda,

Unfortunately neither of these options worked, I did get the "success"
message on the first option but the Registry keys mentioned don't exist! I
have checked the Reg' on my laptop and the keys are not there either, so I
don't think that is the problem?

hopefully someone else will pick this up.

0x8007 com errors are windows errors. So com error 0x8007007f means windows error 7f (or 127 in decimal). Most Com errors are component specific. Type in a command prompt (must be in decimal - use calc in scientific mode to convert)

net helpmsg 127

which says

The specified procedure could not be found

This message is usually caused by mismatched versions of files. It loads a dll but the function is not in it. See if the userenv log sheds any light on it.
C:\WINDOWS\Debug\UserMode\userenv.log

Note that many errors in this file are not errors but windows checking stuff (if it fails it knows x and if it suceeds it knows y). You are looking for a 127, 0x7f, or 0x8007007f errors and trying to identify the filename of the file without the expected function in it (which is a real error).

You could try running in Start Run

sfc /purgecache

if you have your install media ready. This will clear your cache of system files then verify your files.
