Error C000000E5 on WinNT Wks

Hi!

I am currently making some experiments on W2K. I have 3 DC, two of them are
W2K Server and one is WNT Server. One W2K server is the PDC and other has
Exchange 5.5.

I tried shutting down the PDC (W2K server that don't have Exchange 5.5) and
the BDC Winnt Server and try to log on to the domain using a WinNT Wks. I am
thinking that the Workstation must logon to the W2K DC (which has Exchange
5.5) cause in W2K, all can be a PDC (am I right?). But when I try to logon,
this message appears:

"The system Can not logn you on C000000E5. Please try again later or consult
your system administrator."

And after I tried twice, I can logon but there is an error that I am not
able to connect to the Domain since there is no DC available to validate my
account.

Is there any problem on my configuration?

Hello,

If I understand correctly you do have Exchange 5.5 installed on one of your
Windows 2000 DCs. A second Windows 2000 DC holding the PDC Emulator role
does not have Exchange and for some reason this DC was turned off. Is this
DC being removed permanently?

If that is correct you should make sure to change the LDAP port that
Exchange 5.5 uses. Windows 2000 DCs require full ownership of port 389 and
will not be able to authenticate clients if this port is taken by Exchange
5.5.

See the following article:

224447 XADM: How to Change LDAP Port Assignments in Exchange Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=224447

It sounds like the NT 4.0 machines have lost their secure channel. Once
Exchange is set to use a port other than 389 on the Windows 2000 DC, make
sure the PDC Emulator is brought back online or that the Role is transferred
to the remaining Windows 2000 DC with Exchange on it. You may have to
remove the workstation from the domain and rejoin it back to get the secure
channel working.

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply...

I try to shutdown my Windows 2000 DC which is the PDC Master and trying if
my Windows NT Wks can log on to the domain. Unfortunately I receive this
error. Does it mean that you cannot logon to the windows 2000 domain if your
first windows 2000 PDC is not active?

If WINS is still working and all client machines and DCs are registering in
WINS the client should be able to locate an alternate DC for logon.
however, if WINS is on the PDC Emulator that is turned off and the other DCs
are not on the same subnet as the NT 4.0 workstations then logon broadcast
to locate a DC will fail.

Also, if the BDC is in a different subnet and the second Windows 2000 DC
with Exchange 5.5 using port 389 is on the same subnet the local Windows
2000 DC will not respond..

What is the exact word-for-word error the client gets when it tries to logon
while the PDC Emulator turned off?

Hi David,

I don't have any WINS and I am using a single subnet address. The exact
error is this:

Logon Message:
The systems can not log you on (C00000E5). Please try again or
consult your system administrator.

Hoping for your response.
