Epson stylus 740

I have an Epson Stylus 740 color printer, it was working fine but during a
print job it started to print symbol like characters. Example: @{{{;xx{ and
prints atleast 50 pages. Does anyone know what may fix this. I have tried
deleting the job, unplugging the unti and shutting down my PC. I am using
Windows XP.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

What caused your problem to happen I'm not sure. However, the cure may be
to reset the electronics to default settings which can be achieved by
following the directions below.

To perform a Master EPROM Reset:

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Disconnect the cable that connects from the computer to the printer.
3. With the printer turned off, hold down both the Paper and the Cleaning
Buttons at the same time.
4. Continue to hold the buttons and turn the printer on.
5. When the Paper Light begins to flash, release both the Paper and
Cleaning Buttons.
6. Immediately press the Paper Button once (All the lights will flash and
the printer will begin to charge).
7. When the Power light becomes steady, print.

If the master reset posted by Jan Alter does not work you may have to
re-install the printer driver. Uninstall the old one first, reboot and then
reinstall.
If that does not fix it the possibilities are -
1. A bad printer cable, unlikely but it happens.
2. A bad printer port in the PC.
3. A failed logic board in the printer.
Try the master reset and the driver reinstallation first.
