Epson printer continually being found as New Hardware yet is installed

Ever since installing this one printer (Epson Stylus Photo 820), whenever I
turn it on, a small window in the notification area pops up saying " Found
New Hardware" for the printer.

The printer is connected to my laptop via a USB port, and has not been
unplugged between shut downs, and was functioning okay before being shut off
or the system being turned off.

Several other windows appear in the sequence: 1. Hardware Installation -
which informs me that a file : E-DDSP13.DLL has not passed Windows Logo
Testing, and 2. A Copying Files window - which is pause apparently pending
a "Continue Anyway" click to proceed downloading the dll to
C:\Windows\System 32...\ epsonstylusphoto_821d1d.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I use Explorer to search for DDSP13.DLL

I find it located in four places:

C:\Program Files\Epson\PrinterDriverTemp\SP820\E_DF16FE.CAB
C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3
C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\epsonstylus_photo_821d1d
C:\Windows\LastGood\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\epsonstylus_photo_821d1d
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I then click "Stop Installation" on the Hardware Installation window and a
"Found New Hardware Wizard" window appears with only the "Finish" button
available, which I click.

The Found New Hardware notification appears again, and I sequence through
these windows again.

The printer is installed and working, but this "New Equipment is Founds"
sequence continually appears. I have deleted the printer (Start\Printers
and Faxes\ this printer) and reinstalled. The connection to the printer has
not been changed.

Why is Windows continually seeing this as new hardware and trying to
download that dll. By the way, when I go ahead and download the dll, it
then comes back and says there was a problem installing this printer.

I would appreciate input to resolve this problem.

TIA

Quote > there was a problem installing this printer. unquote.

Go to Epson see if there's a known problem with the installation.
I had to get a NEW CD shipped when the one I got had been written wrong.

If necessary get a removal tool from Epson. use the add/remove section and
REMOVE the Epson printer.

use the remove tool as a cleanup. Check and see if those 4 files still exist.
Rename them to BAK.

If you're comfortable with the registry and know what to find, see if the Epson
stuff is all gone.

check your programs folder and see if the Epson folder still exists.
Remove all traces of the printer that you can find.
look under windows/apps and see if the Epson stuff is gone.

go to Start->run-> type %temp%.
You're in your temp folder. Delete everything.
reboot
go to Start->run-> type %temp%.
finish cleaning out the temp folder. or just skip the 1st temp cleanout above.

then if you're using a CD, make sure it's clean of all thumb prints and grease.
I use a few sheets of toilet paper to clean them.

Do your reinstallation from the clean CD. If you have an old CD drive, use that
one as these super fast CD/DVD drives don't seem to work very well with old
CD's.

See "The New Hardware Wizard may detect the printer device after every
