Problem with printer migration in 2003

Matthew Clark

I did a backup of one of our print servers, and the size of the .CAB was
267 MB. I did a restore of the .CAB file to a different print server
(new one) and then did a backup of it and the size of THAT .CAB file was
only 98 MB. I looked into this, and it didn't restore quite a few
directories to the new server. Here are a few...

c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\canonir5000_60002ac0
c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hewlett_packardhp_co8e3d
c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hewlett_packardhp_co56ce
c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hewlett_packardhp_co4504

Does anyone know why it would not restore these, or if it is important
it should restore these? All printers seem to have been restored as
well as ports.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

in these directories
c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hewlett_packardhp_co8e3d

is stored the information to reinstall the driver. This is mainly used for
PlugnPlay of the device

So then, it is perfectly ok for these not to be restored, and will not
cause problems for clients down the road? Should I copy them over manually?

Thank you,

I usually get them on my migrations but I delete them later due to the
space. Print Migrator does not copy the OEMnnn.infs during the migration so
you have to reinstall the driver again anyway for reinstall to work.

Sorry, not to sound stupid, but do I not need to worry if they aren't
there then, or will it hurt things if they are not there?

The inf files are not copied. On the backed up system when you view the Add
Printer manufacture/model list, the OEM models are in the list. On the
restored system, they are not there in the list even though they are
installed on the machine.

PS there are much more important things to worry about.
