Enable Javascript in IE6

M

mickeyc

I have followed the usual instructions to Enable Javascript in IE6:

Select Tools>Internet Options:
Select the Security Tab
Click Custom Level
Enable Active Scripting
Reload Browser

However, Javascript is still disabled. I am trying to create a google
doc at http://docs.google.com/ but keep getting the Javascript is
Disabled message. I even trie temporarily disabling my security
software but still no joy.

What am I missing?

Thanks for your help

It's the correct setting, so test first out your javascript on some other
javascript enabled websites. If it works for those it should also work for
the google site.

Also check that you are changing the setting for the correct zone on the
security tab - Internet zone if you've not added it to any other zone like
your trusted sites.

Otherwise it may be your security software as you suggest. You could try
fully uninstalling any possible culprits - simply disabling their services
may not be sufficient - they may have lower level drivers that are also
interfering. Also check within the program options.

Hi Mike,
It will be helpful if you included the error message in your post, otherwise
all you get a guess.
1 = First try with the simple approach, clear your caches and delete your
cookies and internet files.
Then click on advanced Tab and scroll down under Browsing and check these
two check boxes:
[&] Browsing:
[ ] Disable script debugging ( Internet Explorer)
[ ] Disable script debugginh (other)

Then uncheck this check box;
[ ] Enable third party browser (Req rest)
Click [OK] and Reboot your computer and see if your issue resolved.

2 = Try to reregister the js by opening the run command and type:
regsvr32 jscript.dll click [OK]
regsvr32 msjava.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

If still no joy read this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/168806/en-us?spid=2073&sid=180

P.S is your computer clean from malwares and viruses.

Hi All,

I've checked all Browser security and Advanced settings and all were in
order. I installed the latest JRE. I registered the 3 DLL's but still
no joy.

The error message I get is a google web page stating that "Javascript
is need to view this page"

Another strange observation is that I have got pop up blocker turned
off but a message tells me that a pop up was blocked.

Any mor tips from anybody would be very useful.

Cheers

Hi Again Nass,

Let me answer you questions:

a) do you have a firewall installed and what it is?.
Yes - windows XP Firewall

b) any anti-spyware like defender or others?.
none

c) any other toolbars installed beside MS?.
Yes - Yahoo toolbar

d) did you loooked in your Privacy to see if the cookies been blocked
to
sub-domain name for google and remove it to get rid of the pop-up blocker
mesg?.
Cookies are NOT blocked to google

e) have a look and see what add-ons is installed there under Programs
Tab and post them here.
There are loads. Is there somewhere where these exist in a text file
so I don't have to list them all

f) Click on Tools >> Pop-Up blocker > Turn Pop-up OFF Pop-Up blocker
Settings
click on this and see what is there and do your changes
The settings are fine

gpedit isn't recognised when I use the run command

I don't know whether this is useful, but the reason I want to access
google docs is to create an online word processed document using AJAX
features. The latest version of myspaces has the same functionality
and this works fine. i have also created some of my own simple js
files and ran them thru my apache server and they work fine.

Thanks for you time on this.

1= Open the Run command and type this:

5= Another runing this command will n't hurt:

Cheers

Mike

I have followed the usual instructions to Enable Javascript in IE6:

Select Tools>Internet Options:
Select the Security Tab
Click Custom Level
Enable Active Scripting
Reload Browser

However, Javascript is still disabled. I am trying to create a google
doc at http://docs.google.com/ but keep getting the Javascript is
Disabled message. I even trie temporarily disabling my security
software but still no joy.

What am I missing?

Thanks for your help

Hi Mike,
It will be helpful if you included the error message in your post, otherwise
all you get a guess.

Then uncheck this check box;

**** Note try one step at a time and Reboot your Machine ****
P.S is your computer clean from malwares and viruses.

Hi Mike,
Please let us know these options first if you have them on your computer:

d= did you loooked in your Privacy to see if the cookies been blocked to
sub-domain name for google and remove it to get rid of the pop-up blocker
mesg?.
e= have a look and see what add-ons is installed there under Programs Tab
and post them here.

Another if you are sure the above doesn't apply to you is;

Click on Tools >> Pop-Up blocker > Turn Pop-up OFF

click on this and see what is there and do your changes.

= Open a run command and type: gpedit.msc click [OK]
Expand the Computer Configuration section.

Select Control Panel and select Security, and then Internet Zone.
Double-click Use Pop-up Blocker option.

*** It is always recommended to back up your registry before edting it, so
backup first as always you can revert back from the Backup******

Eidtor there locate these two keys:
[-] HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ext\
[-] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ext\
If it is n't there try to create new key if it is there try to edit it.
You will see in the Right Pane this:
Name: Restrictto list
Type: DWORD
Value: 1 = To turn ON
0 = To turn OFF
Also while there try this:
[-] HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions
[-] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Internet
Explorer\Restricitions

Hi Mike,
Well try this and I hope it will solve this frustrating issue.
1= Open the Run command and type this:
netsh firewall reset click [OK] and reboot and see if you could
reproduce the issue and see the result.

2 = Still no joy try another command:
rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelheed 123
%windir%\inf\netrass.inf click [OK] and Reboot your machine.
3 = Extra is to reregister the winsock:
by Run >> netsh winsock reset click [OK]

4 = Try to disable the Yahoo toolbar for now and other Add-ons and see you
could be able to access the document.

5= Another runing this command will n't hurt:
sfc /scannow to repair any damaged core files on your system.
HTH.
Regards,
nass
