Embedded Pie Chart Doesn't Update Labels

James

I have an embedded pie chart in a PPT slide. When I change
the underlying data after double-clicking on the pie, the
pie slices change accordingly, but the percentage labels
don't reflect the new percentages. Under 'Data Sources,'
the 'Values' and 'Category Labels' are pointing at the
correct spots. I can't figure out why the percentages
don't change. I've spent a considerable amount of time
setting up the pie for my slide and setting the colors,
etc. I'd hate to recreate it at this point. Any ideas?

Thanks,
James

I take it this is an Excel piechart embedded into PPT, correct?

Which version of PPT?

Are you positive it's embedded and not linked? I *think* (I'd have to
double-check, though), that when you activate a linked Excel chart and edit
it from within PPT, you'd have to save before clicking back into PPT. If you
edit from Excel and save, though, you should have the opportunity to update
that link in PPT when you open the presentation.

Take that with a grain of salt, though, because, as I said, I'd have to
double-check that.

Hi James,

It's possible that the "percentages" that you see are text labels that were
added manually to the pie chart instead of the actual data labels that the
chart generates automatically. You can verify this (assuming you are using
MS Graph) by doing the following:

1) Double-click on the pie chart object to open it up in Graph
2) Chose "Chart Options" from the Chart menu
3) Switch to the "Data Labels" tab of the dialog.

Is the "Percentage" option turned on for the "Label contains" group of the
dialog?

If not,

4) Check the "Percentage" option and click "OK"
5) Manually select each of the text labels that are not updating and delete
them.

I had exactly the same problem. Clear the labels, then put them back. They come back with the correct values.
