Emailing problems with IE

IE is not my default browser although I sometimes use it. My default
browser is Firefox and my default email program is Thunderbird. I
recently upgraded from IE 7 to IE 8. Since then I am unable to email a
web page from IE or email from some other programs such as PSP as I
normally do. When I attempt to do so I get the following message:
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client
cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and
set it as the default mail client." Under Internet Options, Programs,
Mozilla Thunderbird is clearly listed as my default email program. I
tired uninstalling IE 8 and going back to IE 7 but the problem remains.
Is there any way to fix thi? I refuse to Install Outlook.

Also select Tbird as the default for Mail in Set Program Access and
Defaults.

NB: Installing an Outlook 2003 (or earlier) update, not IE8, usually causes
this. If you don't use Outlook (or even if it's not installed), change your
Automatic Updates setting to the "Notify Only" option (cf.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306525). Then when an OL update is offered,
Decline it and "hide" it to avoid losing Tbird as your default.
